The SeeK workshop on forces includes the following activities: Chocolate Grabbing involves standing against a wall, making sure that your bottom and feet are touching the wall at all times. Then without bending your legs, try and pick up a chocolate which is placed on the floor about 0.5 m away from your feet. Egg Towers is an activity which is intended to illustrate the concepts of stability and centre of gravity in construction. The children are given paper straws with which they have to build as tall a tower as possible, making sure that the tower is strong enough to support a raw egg placed at the top of the tower. Raging Rockets is designed to introduce Newton's First and Third laws. The children build rockets which are then launched. The distances flown by the rockets can be explained by Newton's laws. |
