Lectures on Superconductivity: Applications
Magnetic separation is widely used in industry to remove ferrous contaminants. Superconducting electromagnets can generate a large enough magnetic field gradient to separate even paramagnetic (non-ferrous) components, with applications in water purification and minerals processing. The latter is the largest industrial processing application of superconductors.
