Welcome to the Lectures on Superconductivity

Welcome! The lectures are divided into five sections, each corresponding to one DVD of the DVD version: Fundamentals, Materials I, Materials II, Electronics and Applications. There is no need to watch the videos in order, or to view every section, but of course you can if you wish. Many films are also shown with links to related clips in other sections, so (for example) engineers can learn about the physics and materials science underpinning their applications.

Many films come with extra content, including questions and answers, further reading and links to related films. Look out for the 'More Information' boxes, which will indicate what extra content is available and link you straight to it.

To get started, select your first section of interest using the DVD selector below.

Fundamentals

An introduction to the fundamental characteristics and theories of superconductivity. The BCS and Ginzburg-Landau theories are discussed for conventional superconductors, and more recent developments including theories of high temperature superconductivity introduced. The critical parameters, flux pinning behaviour and characterisation techniques are also covered. Full contents...
