Lectures on Superconductivity: Materials I
NbTi is the workhorse for the production of superconducting magnets, and is commonly used for MRI, accelerators and fusion systems.
NbTi rods are embedded in a copper matrix and extruded to produce a multifilamentary wire. The amount of copper, number of NbTi filaments and filament diameters are customised for each application according to the required stability, magnetic field and current.
