EFECTS

Our ink-jet printing research is focused on the use of ink-jet technology to produce superconductor and electro-ceramic coatings. Our longstanding interest has been in the use of electromagnetic ('valvejet') nozzles to produce YBCO coatings and suitable buffer layers by chemical solution deposition routes. In addition to using electromagnetic devices (from Domino, Lee and Fritz Gyger), we are now also using piezoelectric printheads, and printing both suspensions and sol-gels for a wider ranging of applications.

We are currently engaged in the EU FP7 collaborative project EFECTS (Efficient Environmental-Friendly Electro-Ceramics Coating Technology and Synthesis).
