Applied Superconductivity and Cryoscience Group
The Applied Superconductivity and Cryoscience Group (ASCG) was formerly a research group of the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy led by Prof. Bartek Glowacki.
ASCG took a broad, multidisciplinary approach with aspects from most materials disciplines, including physical metallurgy, composites, materials chemistry, materials modelling, devices and medical materials. Applied superconductivity research included the synthesis of superconductors, the design and fabrication of conductors and their characterisation and optimisation, for materials spanning the entire Tc range, including YBCO, MgB2, Nb3Sn and Nb3Al. The Group's cryoscience research focused on advanced hydrogen-oxygen production technologies of photocatalytic electrolysers for fuel and cryogenic purposes, as well as the development of advanced cryocoolers. Following the retirement of Prof. Glowacki from the University of Cambridge, this site is retained only to host the Lectures on Superconductivity.
Lectures on Superconductivity
A project to produce video Lectures on Superconductivity, featuring contributions from leading world experts in academia and industry, was announced in 2002 by the European Network for Superconductivity, SCENET-2. This project was led by Bartek Glowacki and received financial support from SCENET-2, Pi-Shift and the European Science Foundation. The project is no longer maintained, but the videos will remain available on a best effort basis.
