Over the past ten years or so, a number of computer programs have been produced within the group, covering topics in the fields of composite materials, surface coatings and a range of processing operations. The programs treat phenomena such as stress development, thermal expansion, interfacial debonding, creep, heat flow, solidification etc. Some of the programs were written to implement relatively complex analytical solutions and others to establish numerical solutions, using finite difference methods. The solutions concerned are not readily obtainable via simple sets of analytical equations, such as could be implemented using a hand calculator. In some cases, they could be obtained using standard commercial software packages, but not without considerable investment of time and resource. The Composites and Coatings group has made compiled versions of some of these programs available to any interested party via this Web site. The programs concerned are all quite straightforward to use. In general, they cover simple situations and most relate to 1-D or 2-D geometries. Their memory requirements are modest and in most cases they will take very little time to run (from a few seconds to a minute or so). Other programs may be added to the library later.
