A meeting in honour of Professor Horst Cerjak

A very special meeting was held to honour the life-long acheivements of Professor Horst Cerjak of the Technical University of Graz, Austria. A huge number of his associates and students attended and there was a genuine atmosphere of joy.

There were numerous technical presentations, published in a conference booklet, and a special issue of the journal formerly known as Zietscrhift fur Metallkunde (now International Journal of Materials Research). The latter issue was published in honour of Professor Cerjak without his knowledge - he was very pleasantly surprised to see it.

All in all, a wonderful occasion.

Cold metal deposition basically is like arc welding using MIG, but the liquid droplets are broken off from the consumable by vibration and the conditions are such that the drops are not very hot compared with the liquidus temperature.
