I am a Trinity College Research fellow, working in the department of Materials Science. I work on carbon nanotubes in particular, and have a wider interest in nanocomposites and self-ordering systems. I am based in the polymer group, both because nanotubes can be regarded as an extreme form of conjugated polymer which can display polymeric phenomena, and because I am interested in the interactions between nanotubes and conventional polymers at the molecular scale. Previously, I spent time working as a materials technology consultant at Scientific Generics , where I focussed on technology exploitation and innovation.

To a large extent I look after the range of projects that are described in the nanotube introduction pages which cover a broad range from synthesis to applications. I have a particular growing interest in the covalent and non-covalent surface modification of carbon nanotubes, and the potential for the formation of a liquid crystalline system.
I am also keen to explore the area of nanotube modelling using the expertise within the polymer group and I hope that we will be able to bring a fresh perspective to the field.
I currently lecture the 3rd year polymer processing, and am a visiting lecturer within Cranfield's MSc in nanotechnology .
