Understand microstructure-property relationships relevant to bearing steels. By understanding the nature of rolling contact fatigue, exposure to corrosive and to high temperature environments, the reliability and performance of bearing steels can be improved.
Conceive novel alloys, compositions and processing routes to exceed current technological limits, and satisfy the demands of new technologies related to applications such as windmills, efficient turbines, nuclear and marine applications.
Develop original physical and mathematical models to aid in the understanding of existing bearing steels and their properties, and in the invention of new ones.
