Roving Researcher scheme expands to Materials Science & Metallurgy

27 January 2026

The Roving Researcher scheme, supported by EPSRC EDI Hub+, is expanding to the Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy. This initiative provides skilled researchers to maintain projects during or after periods of parental, medical, or caring leave, helping to ensure continuity in research and supporting an inclusive research culture.

The scheme now includes Materials Science & Metallurgy alongside Chemistry as part of this pilot expansion. This partnership with the School of Biological Sciences enables our department to access crucial support and helps maintain ongoing research projects across our teams.

The expansion represents a significant step towards fostering a more inclusive and supportive research environment in the physical sciences. The Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy looks forward to seeing the positive impact of this initiative on our research community.

We thank EPSRC EDI Hub+ for funding this expansion and the School of Biological Sciences for their collaboration in rolling out this successful model.
