Peiyu Chen

Associate Teaching Professor

Associate Teaching Professor, Head of Part II Materials Science

As a teaching-focused academic, I work closely with the Director of Undergraduate Teaching and the Teaching Committee to coordinate, develop, and deliver the Materials Science undergraduate course. My lectures cover a range of topics, including microstructure, electrical properties, and optical properties of materials. In addition, I take a leading role in the oversight of courses, practical classes, student projects, and assessments.

Prior to my current role, I was a Lecturer (Teaching) in Materials Science at the University of Sheffield (2021–22) and undertook doctoral and postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford (2015–21). My research focused on the synthesis and characterisation of two-dimensional nanocrystals using scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM), as well as surface science of solid-state lithium batteries. During this period, I was awarded a David Cockayne Junior Research Fellowship and the Best Departmental Lecturer Trophy at Oxford.
