Congratulations to Dr Tongtong Zhu, a post-doc within the Department, who has won the 2018 Postdoc Business Plan Competition, run by Cambridge Enterprise with the Entrepreneurial Postdocs of Cambridge (EPOC).

Tongtong gave a 3 minute pitch to a packed out Peterhouse theatre against 5 other finalists of the competition. He demonstrated the capability and potential of porous GaN for transforming the LED industry through the wafer-scale approach that has been developed at the Centre for GaN. His pitch included a live demonstration of an LED with a porous GaN reflective substrate, as well as a porosified GaN structure on an industrial scale, 8 inch Si Wafer.   He receives a £20k investment fund prize to progress the business plan for Poro Technologies.

Poro Technologies, set up by Rachel Oliver, TongTong Zhu and Yingjun Liu (pictured) is the latest spin out company from the Cambridge Centre for Gallium Nitride and follows in the footsteps of CAMGAN (now owned by Plessey), Paragraf and Kubos.
