Professor James Elliott, Deputy Head of the Department of Materials Science and Fitzwilliam College Fellow, will be speaking about plastic use at the Let's make it circular: waste, recycling and the circular economy family event at Storey's Field Centre, in Eddington, this weekend.

James is part of the Cambridge Creative Circular Plastics Centre, within which his current research seeks to develop plastics that are either recyclable or which degrade in the environment.  His team are rediscovering the natural polymers and focusing much more on issues like waste disposal and degradability, rather than prioritising durability and cost, which led to the development of synthetic polymers in the past.  James hopes the work of the Cambridge Creative Circular Plastics Centre will be a catalyst for change and will engage companies across a number of sectors, including plastics manufacturers and waste management companies.

More information about James Elliott's work can be found in a feature article on the Fitzwilliam College website: https://www.fitz.cam.ac.uk/news/exciting-prospects-plastic-progress
