With the death of Neville Greaves earlier this month, the research community focused on glasses and disordered materials has lost one of its most cherished members.  For the past near-decade, after stepping down as Head of the Department of Physics at Aberystwyth, Neville was a Distinguished Research Fellow of the Materials Science Department at Cambridge.  During that period, building on collaborations within the Department, he published several papers ‒ the most prominent of which already has over 700 citations.  In 2016, to mark his 70th birthday and to celebrate his scientific contributions, the Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids published a special issue (vol. 451) dedicated to ‘Structure, dynamics and applications of non-crystalline solids and disordered materials’, the foreword to which gives a concise overview of Neville’s major contributions to these fields.
