This Prize is awarded annually, in the Michaelmas Term, to one student and will be £250 in value. In addition the Prizewinner will become an "A&B alumnus", conferring benefits such as invitations to dinners, receptions etc. The award will be made on the basis of the quality of the reports submitted and other information about the success of the placement.

2023

Piotr Sokolinski (Part IB, SE) is the fourteenth recipient of the Armourers and Brasiers Company European Placement Prize. Piotr visited MPIE, Duesseldorf, Germany, hosted by Dr. Vivek Devulapalli, Prof. Dr. Gerhard Dehm, and Dr. Frank Stein.  Piotr gained valuable research experience completing a project titled “Mechanical properties and hydrogen embrittlement of equiatomic CoCrFeNi with TiN and TiO2 nanoparticle additions”.

2022

Sophie Mance (Part II, CC) is the thirteenth recipient of the Armourers and Brasiers Company European Placement Prize.  Sophie's successful placement was based at Helmholtz-Zentrum Hereon, Geesthacht, Germany, working on a project titled "In-situ Synchrotron Radiation Diffraction Study of Compression of AZ91 Composites Reinforced with Recycled Carbon Fibres" under the guidance of Dr Domonkos Tolnai and colleagues. (Presentation made by Prof. James Elliott, joint Head of Department)

Wojtek Adamczyk (Part II, M) is the twelfth recipient of the Armourers and Brasiers Company European Placement Prize for his successful placement at Rolls-Royce, Dahlewitz, Germany, on a project "Evaluation of Nucleation Damage Parameter as a fatigue life criterion for Allvac718Plus in the context of multiaxial loading for different R-ratios" under the guidance of Dr Hartmut Schlums and colleagues. (Presentation made by Head of Department, Prof. Paul Midgley)

Maisam Merali (Part II, CTH) is the eleventh recipient of the Armourers and Brasiers Company European Placement Prize for his successful placement at the Max-Planck-Institut für Eisenforschung, Düsseldorf, Germany, on a project "Experimental Investigations of Phase Relations in Co-rich Co-Ti Alloys" with Dr Frank Stein, Prof Gerhard Dehm and colleagues. Sam Hill (Part II, JE) is the tenth recipient of the Armourers and Brasiers Company European Placement Prize for his successful placement at the Magnesium Innovation Centre (MagIC), HZG-Geesthacht, Germany on a project "Hardness and Microstructure of Mg-4Nd-xZn Alloys" with Dr Domonkos Tolnai, Dr Serge Gavras, Dr Norbert Hort and colleagues.  (Presentation made by Deputy Head with responsibilities for teaching, Prof. Zoe Barber)

Daniel Varley (Part II, Q) is the nineth recipient of the Armourers and Brasiers Company European Placement Prize for his successful placement at MPIE, Dusseldorf, Germany, working on a project entitled "High Temperature Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells: An Insight into Degradation Mechanisms" with Prof Gerhard Dehm, Dr Frank Stein and colleagues.  (Presentation made by Head of Department, Prof. Mark Blamire)

Graham Kimbell (Part II, CL) is the eighth recipient of the Armourers and Brasiers Company European Placement Prize for his successful placement at EPF, Lausanne, Switzerland, working on a project entitled "Investigating the Electrical Properties of Ag44 Crystals" under the guidance of Prof Francesco Stellacci, Dr. Sam Jones and other colleagues.  (Presentation made by Head of Department, Prof. Mark Blamire)

Malavika Nair (Part II, CHU) is the seventh recipient of the Armourers and Brasiers Company European Placement Prize for her successful placement at EPF, Lausanne, Switzerland, working on a project entitled "Investigating a family of Liquid Crystal capped Gold Nanoparticles via a thiol-for-OAm ligand exchange - Synthesis, Cleaning and Characterisation" under the guidance of Prof Francesco Stellacci, Dr. Stefan Guldin and other colleagues.  (Presentation made by Prof. Bll Clyne, academic in charge of CaMPUS)

Gloria Young (Part II, TH) is the sixth recipient of the Armourers and Brasiers Company European Placement Prize for her successful placement at EPF, Lausanne, Switzerland, working on a project entitled "Formation, extraction and testing of silicon particles in Al-­Si alloys" under the guidance of Prof Andreas Mortensen, Mr Martin Mueller and other colleagues.

Michael Hope (Part IB, Q) is the fifth recipient of the Armourers and Brasiers Company European Placement Prize for his successful placement at University of Erlangen-Nuernberg, Germany, working on a project entitled "The Effect of Ruthenium on the Solubility of Rhenium in the Matrix of Nickel Based Superalloys" under the guidance of Dr Ralf Rettig and colleagues (Host: Dr Alexandra Haase)

Matthew Jordan (Part III, R) is the fourth recipient of the Armourers and Brasiers Company European Placement Prize for his successful placement at University of Erlangen-Nuernberg, Germany, working on a project entitled "Recommendations for the Rapid Growth of Nano-Crystalline Diamond Foils by HF-CVD" under the guidance of Dr Stefan Rosiwal and colleagues (Host: Dr Alexandra Haase).

Josh Weston (Part II, CTH) is the third recipient of the Armourers and Brasiers Company European Placement Prize for his successful placement at TU Wien, Vienna, Austria, working on a project entitled "The Influence of Thermomechanical Processing Parameters during Hot Deformation of Ti-6Al-4V" under the guidance of Dr Cecilia Poletti, Fernando Warchomicka and colleagues.

2009

Gabriel Mecklenburg (Part III, G) is the second recipient of the Armourers and Brasiers Company European Placement Prize for his successful placement at Rolls-Royce Dahlewitz, Germany, working on a project entitled "Comparison of Different Lifing Methods" under the guidance of Dr Hartmut Schlums and colleagues.

2008

Callum Young (Part II, PEM) is the first recipient of the Armourers and Brasiers Company European Placement Prize for his successful placement at EMPA in Switzerland, working on a project entitled "Compression of micropillars made by FEBID, FIBID and Ion-Beam milling" under the guidance of Dr Ivo Utke and colleagues.
