Location:  Institute of Materials EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland

Project areas: Supramolecular nanomaterials and interfaces (SuNMIL group)

Period of placements: 8-10 weeks during the period 15 June to 31 August 2023

Accommodation arrangements: Usually within university flats within walking distance of or a short bus/tram journey to EPFL

Financial support from hosts: CHF 1600 (~£1368) per month less the financial support from DMSM and less the cost of accommodation.  Students are expected to receive around CHF 550 (~£425) per month from the host based on past summer costs.

Language: French, with English widely spoken

  • If a visa is required for entry into Switzerland for the placement, students are advised to submit their application as soon as possible (3 months in advance if possible) in case they need an official registration/invitation letter, which the host laboratory can assist with. 

Profile of institution:
Lausanne is a beautiful city, located on a hillside overlooking Lake Geneva. The EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne), one of the two Federal Swiss Institutes of Technology  supported by the Swiss Federal government, is located beside the lake just to the west of Lausanne. EPFL, and the Materials Department in particular, has an excellent international reputation.
