NOTICE: The 2020-2021 (i.e. summer 2021) scheme will not be opening for applications as usual at the end of Michaelmas Term 2020.  As it stands, we will not proceed with any European placement plans for summer 2021.  In the Spring we will revisit the scheme to see if we are able to offer any placements within UK industry or in-house.  More information will be circulated to eligible students next term if there is any progress on the situation.

Introduction

The Department has formed partnerships with several UK companies working in Materials or related fields. Details of the placement periods, project areas, profiles of the firms etc can be seen by clicking on their names listed below.  The bursary payment levels and arrangements may vary a bit between the individual firms, but are broadly expected to be of the order of £250-300 per week, with no accommodation specifically provided.

Students who are selected for these placements will usually be interviewed by their industrial host before a placement is formally offered.

At the end of a placement, the student will complete a placement report form which includes detailing general costs incurred in relation to travel and accommodation, financial support from the host and information on the project undertaken - for Department records.

NOTICE - Coronavirus - Nov 2020

The CaMPUS scheme is under review as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.  We are not able to commence plans to send students on European placements due to rapidly changing travel and work restrictions, and we will review the viability of UK based placements with the hosts and the University of Cambridge in the spring. Thank you for your understanding.
