Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy

The Department of Materials Science & Metallurgy is located in the heart of Cambridge and has over 30 academic staff including research fellows, more than 50 administrative, technical and support staff, and roughly 60 postdoctoral researchers, 130 research students and 30 visiting scientists at any time.

In the RAE 2008 (UK Research Assessment Exercise, covering 2001–07), 95% of our research activity is rated world-leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*).

  • The 2012 Armourers and Brasiers' Cambridge Forum will be held on 27th June 2012

  • The Fourteenth Kelly Lecture will be given at the Forum by Dr Alan Taub, VP for Research, General Motors. The title of his talk will be: "Materials Challenges for a Sustainable Automotive Industry".
