For the first time in its history, the Department is housed in a single building designed for purpose. The Department has over 30 academic staff including research fellows, more than 50 administrative, technical and support staff, and roughly 80 postdoctoral researchers, 130 research students and 30 visiting scientists at any time.

  • REF 2014 rerun
  • The Times Higher Education has reassessed the ranking results of the 2014 REF on the basis of raw GPA multiplied by the proportion of eligible staff each institution and department submitted. We are pleased that the Department of Materials Science remains the top Materials department even when this intensity-weighting is applied to its raw GPA.
