On International Women's in Engineering Day, Prof. Rachel Oliver has been named one the Top 50 Women in Engineering: Sustainability by the Women's Engineering Society, recognising that she is a pioneer of new technologies for LEDs.   LEDs commonly used in lighting are based on gallium nitride (GaN). She has made many important discoveries about the nanostructure & composition of GaN including the development of a way to integrate a mirror into the LED itself.
