Profile of Firm:

Plastometrex (PX) is a start-up company that was created in October 2018.  It currently has 14 employees, with several more appointments expected soon.  The firm is oriented towards the development of Indentation Plastometry.  There are many publications in the literature, including a recent review of the technique (https://doi.org/10.1002/adem.202100437).  There’s also a relevant TLP  (https://www.doitpoms.ac.uk/tlplib/mechanical_testing_metals/plastometry.php).  The firm manufactures and sells machines to both academia and industry, with a substantial number already being used in half a dozen different countries.

Project Areas / Typical Projects:

The project is likely to focus on technical issues relevant to the products of the firm. These currently include effects of material anisotropy and tensile-compressive asymmetry, although ongoing developments are such that the coverage will only be fully defined nearer the time. The work is likely to include various types of mechanical test and also some microstructural studies.  It’s also expected to involve at least some familiarization with Finite Element Method (FEM) modeling of indenter penetration, which is central to Indentation Plastometry.
