Sam Gyimah MP,  Universities and Science Minister for England, visited the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, University of Cambridge on the 16th May 2018. During a tour of the Department facilities and laboratories, he met with postgraduate students and postdoctoral researchers from both the UK and overseas. Discussions included the development of novel materials for the aircraft industry, metallic glasses, biomedical scaffolds, light emitting diodes, graphene, work on spintronics and high resolution imaging. The areas visited included the Rolls Royce Laboratory, Cambridge Centre for Medical Materials, the Gallium Nitride Laboratory, Device Materials Laboratory and the High Resolution Electron Microscopy Suite. The visit offered a welcome opportunity to meet with the Minister and to exchange ideas and information for future developments.
